1. What we collect
We collect two main kinds of information:
- Account information — such as your email address, a password (stored only in hashed form), your plan, and basic settings you choose.
- Essays and letters you submit — the writing you send to be checked, along with the target band you set and the feedback we generate for it. Please avoid including sensitive personal details in your practice essays, since they are not needed to score your writing.
We also collect limited technical data automatically, like the pages you visit and general device information, to keep Bandly working and secure.
2. How we use your data
- to check your writing and return an estimated band with feedback;
- to save your history so you can track progress toward your target band;
- to operate, secure, and improve the quality of our checking; and
- to handle billing, support requests, and important service notices.
We do not sell your personal information or your essays.
3. Storage and security
Your data is stored on reputable cloud infrastructure and protected with reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit. We keep your account data while your account is active and your submitted essays for as long as needed to provide history and improve the service, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
4. Third parties
Bandly relies on a small number of trusted providers to run the service, including an AI/model provider that processes the text of your essay to generate feedback, plus payment, hosting, and analytics providers. These providers only receive the data they need to perform their function and are expected to protect it. We do not permit them to use your essays to train their own models where that option is available to us.
5. Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences, and limited analytics cookies to understand how Bandly is used. You can control non-essential cookies through your browser or any cookie controls we provide.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can delete individual essays from your account, and you can ask us to close your account and remove your data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
