Task 2 Essay · problem solution
In many cities around the world, traffic congestion is getting worse every year. What are the causes of this problem, and what measures can be taken to solve it?
Nowadays traffic congestion is a serious problem in many big cities. Every day people spend a lot of time on the road, and this situation is becoming worse. In this essay I will discuss the main causes and suggest some solutions.
There are several reasons for this problem. The first reason is that the number of private cars has increased very fast. Because people have more money now, almost every family wants to own a car, and sometimes two or three cars. Another cause is that public transport in many cities is not good enough. The buses are often crowded and late, so people prefer to drive their own vehicle. In addition, some cities have old roads that were built many years ago and they cannot handle so many cars.
However, there are some measures that can solve this situation. Firstly, the government should invest more money in public transport such as buses and subways. If the trains are fast and clean, people will leave their cars at home. Secondly, the authorities can build more roads and bridges to reduce the pressure. Another good idea is to encourage people to use bicycles or to share their car with colleagues who live near them. Some countries also charge a fee for driving in the city centre, and I think this policy is very useful because it makes people think twice.
In conclusion, traffic jams are caused mainly by the growing number of cars and poor public transport. Governments and citizens should work together, and by improving transport and changing our habits, the problem can be reduced in the future.
