In the modern world, it is no longer enough to complete one's education in early adulthood; people must continue learning throughout their lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The idea that education is a phase to be completed by one's early twenties, after which working life simply begins, is increasingly untenable. I entirely agree that continuous learning has become a necessity rather than an option, for reasons that are economic, technological and, not least, personal. The economic argument is the most compelling. The skills that employers demand are changing faster than at any point in history: entire professions, from typesetting to film development, have vanished within a single working lifetime, while others, such as data science and renewable energy engineering, have appeared from nowhere. A qualification earned at twenty-two cannot possibly sustain a career of forty-five years under such conditions. Workers who treat learning as a lifelong habit can adapt as industries shift; those who do not risk finding their expertise obsolete in middle age, precisely when retraining feels most daunting. Technology reinforces this imperative while simultaneously making it easier to satisfy. Artificial intelligence is now automating tasks once thought to be safely human, which obliges even highly educated professionals to update their capabilities continually. At the same time, online courses, podcasts and virtual mentorship have dismantled the barriers of cost and geography that once confined serious study to campuses, leaving little practical excuse for standing still. Beyond employment, lifelong learning enriches life itself. Adults who take up languages, instruments or history in later years consistently report greater wellbeing, and there is credible evidence that sustained mental activity delays cognitive decline. A society of curious, adaptable citizens is also better equipped to weigh evidence and resist misinformation, an underrated civic benefit. In conclusion, I am firmly of the view that learning must extend across the whole of life. In a world where knowledge dates quickly and the tools for acquiring it have never been more accessible, treating education as finished at graduation is not merely limiting but genuinely hazardous.
