The main benefit is flexibility, because gig workers can choose when and where they work, so this kind of job is suitable for students, parents and people who need extra income. For example, a university student can deliver food in the evening and study during the day. Moreover, it is easy to start this type of work, as workers usually only need a smartphone and there is no long interview process. Companies also get benefit from this system, because they hire workers only when they are needed and this reduces their costs. On the other hand, there are serious disadvantages too. Firstly, gig workers do not receive the benefits that normal employees have, such as paid holidays, sick leave and pension. If they become ill, they simply earn nothing. Secondly, their income is not stable because it depends on how many customers there are each day. This makes difficult for workers to plan their future or borrow money from a bank. Finally, some platforms pay very low rates, because there are always other people who are ready to accept the work. In my opinion, the disadvantages are more serious for people who depend on this kind of work completely.
