Task 2 Essay · opinion

Some people believe that individuals can do little to protect the environment and that only governments and large companies can make a real difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

that ordinary people have almost no power to protect the environment, and that meaningful change can only come from governments and big corporations. While I accept that these large bodies play a crucial role, I disagree with the view that individuals are powerless. , it is true that governments and companies control the biggest sources of pollution. National policies, taxes on carbon or investment in renewable energy, can reduce emissions on a scale that no single person could achieve. , large factories produce far more waste than a household, so their decisions have a greater impact. , it would be unrealistic to expect the environmental crisis to be solved without action from those in power. , the influence of individuals should not be underestimated. When millions of people change their daily habits, the combined effect can be significant. , choosing public transport, reducing meat consumption, or avoiding single-use plastics all lower demand for polluting products. , ordinary citizens shape the behaviour of governments and businesses through their votes and their spending. If consumers refuse to buy products from companies that harm the planet, those companies are forced to change in order to survive. , the most effective approach is a combination of both. Individuals may not be able to solve the problem alone, but their choices create pressure and set an example that larger organisations eventually follow. , governments and companies carry the main responsibility, I disagree that individuals can do little. Personal actions, especially when taken by large numbers of people, are an essential part of protecting the environment.
