Some people believe that the minimum voting age should be lowered to 16. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In some countries, there is a debate about whether teenagers of 16 years old should be allowed to vote in national elections. Although young people today are better informed than in the past, I disagree with lowering the voting age, because I believe most 16-year-olds are not ready for this responsibility. Firstly, voting requires understanding of complicated issues such as economy, taxation and foreign policy. Most teenagers have not studied these subjects deeply, and they have little experience of working, paying taxes or managing their own money. As a result, their opinions about political matters are often based on emotions or on what their parents and friends say. If millions of such votes are added to an election, the result may not reflect what is really best for the country. Secondly, 16-year-olds can be influenced easily by social media. Political parties know this, and they could target young voters with simple slogans and false information. Older voters are not perfect too, but they usually have more life experience which helps them to recognise unrealistic promises. However, supporters of this change argue that teenagers can already work and pay tax in some countries, so it is unfair that they cannot vote. This argument has some logic, but in my opinion the number of working 16-year-olds is quite small, and this is not a strong enough reason for changing the whole system. In conclusion, I believe the voting age should stay at 18, because most teenagers do not yet have the knowledge and experience which are necessary to make such an important decision.
