Task 2 Essay · discussion
Some people believe that zoos play an important role in protecting wild animals, while others argue that keeping animals in cages is cruel and unnecessary. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
In recent years, there has been a debate about whether zoos are good for wild animals or not. Some people think zoos protect animals, but others believe that keeping animals in cages is cruel. This essay will discuss both views before giving my opinion.
On the one hand, supporters of zoos say that zoos help to protect endangered species. Many animals, such as pandas and tigers, are losing their natural habitat because of human activities. Zoos provide these animals a safe place where they can live and breed. Moreover, zoos are also educational for children. When children visit the zoo, they can learn about different animals and understand why it is important to protect the nature. This experience is more memorable than watching animals on television.
On the other hand, opponents argue that zoos are cruel places for animals. In the wild, animals can move freely in large areas, but in zoos they must stay in small cages. This can make the animals stressed and unhealthy. For example, some elephants in zoos walk in circles all day, which shows they have mental problems. Furthermore, some zoos only care about making money from visitors and do not care about the animals' condition. These zoos keep animals in bad conditions.
In my opinion, although zoos have some problems, they are still necessary for protecting endangered animals. However, governments should make strict rules to make sure zoos treat animals in a good way and give them enough space.
In conclusion, zoos have both advantages and disadvantages, but I believe they play an important role in animal protection if they are managed properly.
