The bar chart below shows the average number of hours per week spent on unpaid domestic work by men and women in six countries in 2023. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart compares the weekly that men and devoted to unpaid household work in six in 2023. The most striking feature is that performed more domestic work than men in every surveyed, the size of the gap varied enormously — from a modest difference in Sweden to a fourfold disparity in India. Sweden and Canada displayed the most balanced figures. Swedish averaged 22 of housework per week compared with 18 for men, while the equivalent Canadian figures were 24 and 17. In both , , men shouldered a substantial, if unequal, share of domestic duties. At the other end of the spectrum, the imbalance was far more pronounced in India and Turkey. Indian spent 40 a week on unpaid work — the highest figure in the chart and four times the 10 contributed by men. Turkish recorded 36 against just 12 for their male counterparts. Japan and the United States occupied the middle ground: in both devoted roughly 30 weekly to household tasks, approximately double the male figures of 14 and 16 respectively.
