The two maps depict the coastal town of Marlow Bay as it was in 1990 and how it appeared in 2020, following considerable development.
Overall, the town was transformed from a quiet fishing settlement into a tourist destination, with most of the changes concentrated along the seafront, while the residential area to the north expanded only modestly.
In 1990, the shoreline was occupied by a small harbour with fishing boats and a fish market directly behind it. By 2020, the harbour had been enlarged into a marina for yachts, and the market had been demolished to make way for a row of restaurants. A sandy beach to the east of the harbour, previously undeveloped, gained a promenade running along its full length, together with a hotel at its far end.
Inland, the changes were less dramatic. The original housing area beside the main road remained, although it grew slightly to the north-west, where a new school was built. The farmland that once bordered the town on its eastern edge disappeared entirely, replaced by a car park and a golf course, reflecting the town's shift towards tourism.
