Task 1 Letter · formal letter

You are applying for a new job, and the company has asked you to provide a reference from a previous employer. Write a letter to your former manager. In your letter: - remind them who you are and when you worked for them - describe the job you are applying for - explain why their reference would be valuable Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows: Dear ...,

Dear Ms Calloway, I hope this letter finds you well. You may remember me as the marketing assistant who worked in your team at Brightline Media between 2021 and 2024, before relocating to Manchester. I am writing to ask whether you would be willing to provide a professional reference for me. I have recently applied for the position of Marketing Coordinator at a healthcare charity called LifeBridge and have reached the final stage of their selection process. The role involves managing social media campaigns and coordinating fundraising events — responsibilities that closely mirror the work I did under your supervision. Your reference would carry particular weight because you oversaw the two campaigns I am proudest of, including the product launch that exceeded its engagement targets by forty per cent. As the charity has specifically requested a referee who can comment on my project management skills, I can think of no one better placed than you. If you are happy to help, the charity will contact you directly by email; of course, I would completely understand if your schedule does not allow it. Thank you very much for considering my request. Yours sincerely, Elena Petrova
